The co-founder of software firm Atlassian has emerged as the $12 million buyer of the Centennial Park mansion of prestige car dealer Ian Pagent and his wife Maryanne.
It was a bullish purchase by the Paddington-based Cannon-Brookes. The 1918-era mansion was only listed with McGrath's Ben Collier for two weeks amid talk of it cracking the suburb's $10 million high before it was whipped off the internet. Collier has steadfastly declined to comment.
The Tesla-driving Cannon-Brookes has a thing for the homes of car dealers, having bought the Palm Beach retreat of Neville Crichton in early 2013 for $8.7 million.
The removalists didn't have a long drive. Cannon-Brookes has lived at his Hargrave Street property since 2010 when he bought it for $7.3 million from Hardie Resources' director Duncan Hardie.
The Centennial Park residence, Braelin, is a grand statement home for the baseball-cap wearing IT whiz.
It was designed by architect Donald Esplin for former lord mayor of Sydney Sir Allen Taylor, and bought by the Pagents in 2009 for $8.2 million from recruitment consultant Brian Russell.
It tops the $10 million paid by the Zavattaro family in 2006 for the historic Crossways mansion when it was sold by former McGuigan Wines director James Smiley.
That former $10 million record was matched in 2008 by another Martin Road mansion when it was sold by Peter Holmes a Court to orthopaedic surgeon Leo Pinczewski.
Cannon-Brookes and his business partner Scott Farquhar also have an eye for commercial property it seems.
The Atlassian offices in San Francisco have been featured in many architectural international architecture blogs.
