Ballarat failed to put the last two grand final defeats to bed with a disappointing 57-33 loss to Gippsland at Hisense Arena on Sunday.
Coach Kate McMahon described the defeat as “raw”, with the side entering the match with high hopes of taking out overall honours.
“We went in with exceptionally high hopes,” McMahon said. “We thought we had a genuine chance.”
Ballarat started strongly, breaking out to a six-goal lead midway through the first term before Gippsland’s mid-
courters found their feet to lead by three at quarter-time.
From there it was all Gippsland, with slick ball movement and precision passing causing Ballarat’s mid-courters and defenders headaches for the remainder of the match.
