The man, 29, who The Courier has chosen not to name, had been drinking at a work Christmas party at the Lake View Hotel on December 22 before the assault took place, Ballarat Magistrates Court heard on Monday.
Police prosecutor Leading Senior Constable Pepe Brown said the man had a verbal altercation with his partner at the pub about 11pm, which included a mutual friend.
The court heard the man left the pub, but returned a short time later to give his partner money for a taxi.
Leading Senior Constable Brown said it was then that the man became aggressive, assaulting his partner and their friends, another woman and a man.
Magistrate Michelle Hodgson had the man assessed for a community corrections order.
