And Saturday’s win over last year’s grand finalist Sunbury indicates she is well on the way to achieving her mission.
A final-term blitz resulted in the Lakers winning 52-37 against the perennial powerhouse, asserting its position atop the BFNL ladder.
Played in torrid conditions at Clarke Oval, just four goals separated the sides at the final break, before the visitors put their foot down with a 19-8 goal quarter.
They eventually won 52-37.
Walsh said there was always satisfaction to match it with one of the sides that was used as a benchmark.
The Lions won the 2013 premiership and finished runner-ups last season.
“It was exciting to win; I think it’s a good indication of where we are at,” Walsh said.
“It’s nice to know our attack can match it with the likes of Sunbury, because that’s where they are always so strong.”
Indeed, it was the attacking duo of Sacha McDonald (goal shooter) and Melanie Allen (goal attack) who did most of the damage throughout the day.
Both finished with 26 goals, which Walsh said was a hallmark of the evenness she had tried to implement within the team.
“I actually couldn’t pick a best player or a group of players, it was that even across the board,” she said.
In other matches, Melton held off a dogged Sebastopol; East Point made it two wins from two matches against Ballarat; North Ballarat controlled the match against Redan; and Darley claimed bragging rights against arch rival Bacchus Marsh.
