The walk saw people wander along the Ballarat-Skipton rail trail and the Avenue of Honour.
Heart Foundation acting chief executive officer Kellie-Ann Jolly said there was a great mix of walkers.
“We had quite a few people walking who were not regular walkers,” she said.
Ms Jolly said Heart Health Week in Ballarat would focus on everyone getting more exercise.
Heart Foundation figures from last year showed 85 per cent of people did not get the recommended half an hour of exercise a day.
Young and old – the youngest five, oldest 80 – took part in Sunday’s walk, which was new territory for many.
The Heart Foundation has a regular Ballarat walking group as well, with details at heartfoundation.org.au/ballarat
