More than 240 competitors will hit the circuit for the second round of the Victorian Senior Motocross Championships.
Ballarat Rovers Motorcycle Club president Neale Perkins and his club have been working hard to have the track in the best possible condition for the event.
“We haven’t changed the track too much, just widened a few places and put some more dirt on it,” Neale said.
“The top riders tend to love the track. We get (leading motocross coach) Craig Dack and his team at Monza Park all the time, racing and testing. They reckon it is one of the best tracks going because it has a lot to offer. You’ve got the big jumps, downhill table-tops and reason-able straights.”
Lal Lal’s Joel Milesevic will make his return from injury – suffered in a fall last month – at Monza Park. He will be competing in the pro lites class.
“I’ve only ridden three times in eight weeks,” he said. “We’ll see how it goes. It’ll be good to get a bit of seat time and have fun.”
Milesevic will be matched against Dylan Long, Lawson Bopping, Sam Martin and Jack Simpson – all in the top 10 nationally.
Like Milesevic, Long is a rising talent. He finished seventh in the opening round of the national championship at Horsham, three spots behind Bopping.
Long has followed up with a seventh and fourth in the next two rounds, while Bopping has also been in the top 10.
Lal Lal teenager Emma Milesevic will be out to take full advantage of her home ground.
She is tied for first with fellow Victorian Maddy Brown in the women’s expert class and did have the better of Brown in the opening round of the Australian Women’s MX Nationals at Broadford last month.
Milesevic said she had been looking after herself to ensure she was in top shape for this weekend.
“It’s always your goal to come out and do your best and, obviously, winning is everyone’s ultimate goal,” she said.
“I’m going to try and come out swinging, give it my best and, hopefully, get a really good result this weekend.”
Racing starts at 9am on Saturday and Sunday.
