MORE ROYAL COMMISSION COVERAGE:
Care Leavers Network Australia executive director Leonie Sheedy said there was no question children were raped at the home. “I know that there was a paedophile there. I’ve listened to the men’s stories over the years,” she said.
Ms Sheedy said at least one of the former residents would tell the commission of his abuse at the hands of someone in charge at the Sebastopol facility, which closed in 1980.
She also called on other victims to come forward.
“We need to encourage anybody who was abused in an orphanage or children’s home to come forward and tell the royal commission what happened,” she said.
“The royal commission believes our stories, the highest (body) in the land. Don’t take your stories to the grave.”
