Doing it a little differently are Sebastopol Childcare Centre staff, who will run a bake sale on Wednesday to help busy parents contribute to their own events. 

Acting co-ordinator Sally Sanders said they thought it would help and also contribute to a good cause. 

“It’s more of a bake sale, so parents can grab a plate on their way to work,” she said. 

Like many around Ballarat taking part, the centre is doing it because someone close has been diagnosed with cancer. 

“A staff member’s husband has recently been diagnosed. We were thinking of him,” Ms Sanders said. 

The Cancer Council’s most important fundraiser will put money towards research and support services for those diagnosed with the disease. 

Last year, Ballarat morning teas raised $36,974 towards the appeal’s national total of $11.9 million. 

The national goal this year is $13 million, so a big donation from those who can will help break that mark. 

If you’re not at work or school on Thursday, North Ballarat Sports Club is running a public event. 

It begins at 10.30am and tickets cost $15.
