Police believe the 17-year-old was crossing Chisholm Street when he was struck by an east-bound car about 1.15am. 

The teenager was taken to the Ballarat Base Hospital but died a short time later. 

The driver of the car, a 33-year-old man, was arrested and is assisting police with their enquiries. 

Detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Group are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash or the car’s movements in the lead up to come forward.
