Ballarat won under-nine, 11 and nine-12 mixed medleys, and under-12 mixed 4x100 metres on Sunday.

Thirty teams comprising 61 junior athletes represented Ballarat and achieved the best results for the centre in many years.

In the under-nines Toni Mitchell and Stephanie Kirby set the pace in 100m legs and Matt Peters followed up with a strong 200m to have Ballarat third at the final change.

Todd Curran ran a courageous 400m to cross the line first.

After winning silver in the medley last season, the under-11 mixed team was determined to go one better this year.

Cassie Morel and Caitlin Christie set the pace early, Alexander Davis ran a top 200m and in the last 400m Aaron Green moved into the lead and remained comfortably in front until the finish.

Under-12s Kimberly Sawyer, Shakira Winmar, Richard Larsen and Tim Mitchell recovered from the disappointment of being disqualified after winning their medley heat to show their superiority and win gold in the 4x100 metres for the fourth consecutive year.

For the first time in many years, Ballarat entered an under nine to 12 mixed age boys' and girls' team of Todd Curran and Rory Nunn in the 100m legs, Aaron Green in the 200m and Tim Mitchell 400m.

Green struck some tough competition, but battled on. Mitchell worked his way to a handy lead and was able to maintain it.

Similarly, in the girls' mixed age Toni Mitchell and Caitlin Ashmore ran well in the 100m legs, Caitlin Christie strong in 200m and Simone Boorn-Wells kicked on to get silver medal.
