Ballarat pie-lovers are encouraged to vote for their favourite pie by taking a photo of their dish and posting it on Instagram with the hashtag #BallaratPieandPale before Friday night's Coopers Pie and Pale Gala.
More than 500 residents have already cast their vote which event organiser Kate Burrows said showed how successful the new initiative has been.
“It's been really well received. Venues have sold between 100-250 pies with one selling 1300,” she said.
Ms Burrows said The Western Hotel's lamb and rosemary pie and Heritage Dinner's chunky steak pie have so far proved popular among social media users.
Other venues in the running are Billy's Bistro at the Mecure Hotel, Seymours on Lydiard, Table 48, Ballarat Specialist School Farm, The Provincial, Squire's Loft Ballarat Steakhouse, The Forge, Asahi, The Java Lounge, Eclectic Taste, North Ballarat Sports Club, The Lane, Golden City Hotel, Paleo Cafe, Kitteltys, The Lake View, The Gallery Bistro at Craig's Royal Hotel, Jacksons and Co, The Yacht Club, The Open Pantry, Mitchell Harris, Sovereign Hill, Kryal Castle, The Red Lion, The Salon at the Gallery, Sebastiaans and The Miner's Tavern.
Ballarat's best pie will be announced at the Coopers Pie and Pale Gala on July 31. Hosts Anthony Stevens and writer Richard Cornish will announce Ballarat's best pie as well as the most popular pie and people's choice award.
Foodie mastermind Peter Ford will also craft five gourmet pies for those attending Friday night's event which will be matched with five Coopers ales.
Tickets are available from www.trybooking.com/136761 for $35, with $5 from each ticket donated directly to the 3BA Christmas Appeal.
With the night expected to be a sell out, Ms Burrows said bookings are essential.
