That’s the situation following the team’s 6-1 victory over Cairnlea on Sunday and ladder-leaders University of Melbourne’s 1-1 draw with Keilor Park.
Ballarat is second, just a point behind University of Melbourne, which it plays in the second last round of the year. This means wins in the remaining five games of the campaign will secure the league crown.
A first-half brace from Tessa Curtain saw the Ballarat girls lead 2-1 at half time on Sunday, before Lulu Al-Huneidi and Alyson Pym scored two goals each to round out the triumph away from home.
Earlier in the day, the development squad’s game was called off early in the second half due to inclement weather. The Eureka Strikers were leading 2-0 at the time.
Next weekend, Ballarat returns to Morshead Park, where it will host seventh-placed Brighton.
