BALLARAT Highway Patrol are investigating the cause of car crash near Lexton, which left a woman with serious injuries, on Saturday morning.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the single-vehicle crash in Amphitheatre, about 20 kilometres north-west of Lexton, at 10.30am.
A blue Toyota Camry was travelling east on Ararat-Lexton Road when the driver lost control and struck a number of trees.
A 20-year-old woman was airlifted to The Alfred hospital in Melbourne with life threatening head and chest injuries.
She was transported in a serious but stable condition.
The 18-year-old male driver and a 19-year-old woman were taken to Ballarat Base Hospital with minor injuries.
A 19-year-old man, who was also in the car, was not injured.
Ballarat Highway Patrol would like to speak to anyone who might have witnessed the incident or the cars movement’s prior to the crash.

A WOMAN will be airlifted to Melbourne after a car crash near Lexton on Saturday morning.
The woman, believed to be in her 20s, suffered serious injuries after the car she was travelling in crashed on the Lexton-Ararat Road about 11am.
It is believed the car crashed into a tree.
Three other people, two men and a woman, are believed to have been in the car at the time.
Paramedics are working to stabilise the woman before transporting her by air ambulance to Melbourne.
Ambulance Victoria spokesman John Mullen said the air ambulance was expected to land at a Lexton football oval about midday.
