The International Olympic Committee has officially recognised the World Flying Disc Federation – providing an opportunity for inclusion in the Olympics.
Stewart said ultimate had started to struggle a little in Ballarat owing to it not being rated as a sport or being understood. He is confident the IOC decision and the publicity which went with it will lead to growth in ultimate.
Stewart said while ultimate was already part of the World Games, the possibility of it becoming an Olympic sport provided a whole new outlook.
As well as Ballarat Ultimate, Federation University also has an ultimate club. Ballarat had three representatives as the world under-23 championships in London last month, with Mary Toney being part of the Australian mixed team to capture a silver medal.
Anyone wanting to take up ultimate could try it out indoors at the Ballarat Secondary College east campus each Tuesday at 7pm.
