The Civic Hall has come a long way since its last birthday.

A special event was held on Thursday evening to celebrate 59 years since the day the building was opened.

“This is the first year we have been inside,” Save Civic Hall secretary Merle Hathaway said.

The celebration was held among the variety of concept plans developed by the City of Ballarat to activate the site.

“There is now very little chance it will be demolished, I encourage people to come and have a look at the plans.”

Save Civic Hall board member Victoria Wardlaw said the group was already thinking ahead to the 60th birthday celebrations .

“It has been a massive step forward 12 months on from the 58thIt was built for (...)  entertainment and for the community to feel proud,” she said.
