The two musicians front the indie rock band Holy Holy, and Dawson say their band likes to keep things exciting.
“As far as the sound of our music is concerned, we have goal posts and things we aim for, but they change over time,” he said.
“Our goal posts are on an ever-changing playing field. Ultimately the sound of each individual in the band determines our sound but we play better as the years go by and we try new things out.”
Holy Holy is currently on the road as part of its When The Storms Would Come album tour.
The group’s debut album, it has been described as vaster and wilder than anything they have released to date.
Dawson said it took a while to get the record right, but that was to be expected.
“I started working on it with Tim a number of years ago and it just sort of built slowly,” he said.
“We were building the band and the live show and touring and getting on the road so it’s the kind of thing we couldn’t really force.”
With classic songs, huge supports, overwhelmingly positive feedback and extensive airplay, things have been looking pretty good for Holy Holy of late.
Having recently returned from their first tour of Europe and the UK, wowing audiences at iconic festivals including The Great Escape, Liverpool Sound City, Dot To Dot, London Calling and Primavera, Holy Holy are excited to return for their headline shows.
“We hit the autobahns and motorways with our sat nav and splitter van and had an awesome time playing soo many amazing festivals,” Dawson said.
“Inevitably the band is a bit more loud and raucous during its time on the road.”
As well as Carroll and Dawson, Holy Holy is joined on the road by permanent drummer Ryan Strathie, touring bassist Graham Ritchie and Brisbane-based producer Matt Redlich on keys.
Dawson said after the tour, the band hoped to travel to more festivals abroad before getting stuck into its next project.
Holy Holy will perform at Karova Lounge on September 4.
