Councillor Des Hudson said the federal government had refused to fund the $30,000 Tony Abbott bust on Prime Ministers Avenue. It will now be paid by the Public Art Advisory Committee and the Parks and Gardens Department.
Cr Hudson said given the country now had a new leader, the City of Ballarat would petition the federal government once again, to pay for Malcolm Turnbull’s bust and also to fund the avenue in perpetuity.
“The feedback was that if it was a project from City of Ballarat, then the City of Ballarat should fund it,” he said. “However, why we appreciate that, it is a timeline that commemorates the history of prime ministers in Australia, and the federal government should see value in that.”
The Courier is waiting on federal response.
