Speaking to The Courier on Friday, Sewell said although it would have been ideal to already have a senior coach appointed, it was important that time was taken to ensure the best candidate was chosen.
The Roosters had been down to their final two candidates earlier in the week – North Ballarat Rebels coach David Loader and sacked veteran coach Gerard FitzGerald.
However, Loader accepted an AFL development role with North Melbourne and negotiations between FitzGerald and the board broke down.
Now, the Roosters are back to the drawing board in search of the coach to guide them through their first VFL season back as a stand-alone club.
Sewell, who shared the captaincy with former Brisbane Lion Matt Austin this year, says he has full faith in the board to appoint a top quality coach.
“We’re very understanding of the situation right now,” he said.
“Obviously we would’ve liked to have had a coach now...but they aren’t going to rush and bring in somebody who is sub-standard.
“We are very comfortable with the process.”
The Roosters’ playing group is expected to meet early next week.
Sewell said he did not expect the ongoing saga would impact the players, instead galvanising them as a playing group.
The three-month search for a coach, that is now steered by Mick Malthouse, has interviewed more than 45 prospective coaches.
It is hoped a decision will be reached in the coming weeks, although there has not yet been a time frame put on the announcement.
