Taipans defeated Illawarra Hawks 79-74 in Cairns on Thursday night.
The scores were locked at 71-all when the former Ballarat Miners guard made the shot.
Bruce played 20 minutes off the bench to begin his third season with Cairns – scoring 10 points.
He also had two rebounds and two assists.
Although he did not get any court time, Ballarat’s Anthony Fisher also shared in the win from the bench.
This is Fisher’s first season with Cairns after playing with Perth Wildcats in 2014-15.
