International flavour to Gold Nugget entries

A FOUR-time group winner in England, and former Melbourne and Japan Cup runners headline nominations for the $60,000 Gold Nugget Handicap, 1600m, to be run in Ballarat on Sunday.

Doctor Fremantle from the Sam Pritchard-Gordon stable is a much travelled galloper.

The eight-year-old began his career in England, winning one group two and three group three races.

He joined the Australian stable of Lee Freedman in 2010 and then last season campaigned in New Zealand, where he finished third in the G2 Awapuni Cup, 2000m, in March.

Doctor Fremantle has not raced since April.

The Robbie Griffiths-trained Scintillo has an intriguing background, having raced in the United States, England, France and the 2009 Japan Cup.

The eight-year-old is a group 1, 2, and 3, and listed winner, but has raced just once since June, 2010 - resuming with a last in the Bobie Lewis, 1200m, at Flemington on September 8.

Ballarat's Darren Weir has a powerful line-up of entries, including the imported duo of Emblem of Liberty and Puissance De Lune, comeback mare Leica Ding and Mildura Cup winner Lord Of Brazil.

Weights will be declared tomorrow.

The rail will be in the true position on Sunday.
