Mr McKenzie, who ran the Eureka Pool complex for decades until it was controversially taken over by the City of Ballarat several years ago, died suddenly on Monday.
In a post on the Eureka Pool Ballarat Facebook page on Wednesday, Mr McKenzie's family announced his tragic death.
"It is with heavy hearts that we have had to say goodbye to our beloved husband, Dad & poppy Graeme McKenzie on Monday night," the post read.
Already dozens of tributes have been made on the post, many from former Learn To Swim students who were taught by the McKenzies.
"Omg condolences to the family. Graeme taught my whole family how to swim. He was a treasure," one comment read.
Funeral details will be announced at a later date.
