A man who allegedly tried to run over a police officer before speeding off has been arrested at a Melbourne police station after turning up in a stolen car carrying guns and drugs.

The driver had been wanted over an incident in the early hours of last Wednesday morning that involved a police detective leaping out of the path of an oncoming stolen vehicle in Melbourne's north.
Kader El Houli, 27, was arrested on Monday night and charged with serious offences after he turned up at Fawkner Police Station to discuss another matter.
El Houli, of Hadfield, was due to appear before Melbourne Magistrates Court on Tuesday but chose not to leave his cell and was remanded in custody.
A police spokeswoman said officers at Fawkner Police Station realised El Houli had driven there in an allegedly stolen Volkswagen Amarok and arrested him.
A search of the car allegedly revealed two loaded handguns, methamphetamine, cash and other property, she said.
Police later searched the man's home and discovered an allegedly stolen motorbike and ammunition.
Charge sheets allege police found a .357 Magnum, a .22 semi automatic pistol and nunchakas in his possession.
El Houli has been charged with 24 offences, including reckless conduct endangering life, assault, two counts of motor vehicle theft, theft of a motor bike, trafficking a commercial quantity of methamphetamine, two counts of being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm and traffic offences.
Police allege he stole the Volkswagen, valued at $60,000, from Caulfield South in September and then stole a silver Porsche, valued at $28,000, from Box Hill on October 21. He allegedly stole a motorbike from Richmond in May.
Besides the allegations of failing to stop last Wednesday, police allege El Houli also failed to stop when directed by police in Windsor last Friday.
El Houli is due to return to court in February.
In an unrelated incident on the same Wednesday, another police officer was allegedly struck on the EastLink freeway in Donvale. The driver allegedly hit the officer while trying to avoid a routine road check. A 30-year-old Wantirna South man has been charged over the incident.
