The Peoples Climate March next Saturday will coincide with a series of gatherings taking place across the world to encourage world leaders to take meaningful action on climate change.
BREAZE president Ian Rossiter said the need for a Ballarat rally became evident after only a small number of Ballarat residents made the trek to Melbourne for last year’s climate rally.
“I think many of us in Ballarat are very proud of our lifestyle but its not granted that it will always be this way.”
State and federal representatives local councillors and church leaders have been invited to address the rally about what they hope will be done in Paris, with federal MP Catherine King confirmed as a speaker.
Mr Rossiter said he was expecting a crowd of “several hundred” to assemble next week.
“It’s about the messaging that goes towards our political leaders.”
The Ballarat event is one of six which will take place in regional Victoria over the weekend, with 47 marches taking place nation-wide.
The march will commence at 2pm on November 28 on the corner of Sturt and Armstrong Streets before proceeding to Alfred Deakin Place.
