About 30 volunteers from the district drove up last Thursday, fighting fires, keeping an eye out for hot spots and preventing crop losses.
The contingent that crossed the border consisted of teams from Wendouree, Bacchus Marsh, Daylesford, Clunes and Napoleans plus a strike team.
“We were there to give the guys from South Australia a well-needed break,” CFA Ballarat second lieutenant training officer Matt Burzacott said.
“We went to work straight away.”
The crews worked each morning in South Australia’s mid-north.
Between 200-300 firefighters from across Victoria travelled to help control the fires.
The fires, which started in Pinery last Wednesday, are now contained but are still flaring with some small spot fires.
Two people died in the blaze last Wednesday. Scores of houses were destroyed and seriously damaged, and tens of thousands of cattle died.
Remaining fire crews in South Australia will likely be sent home from Tuesday.
Residents in the area have been reminded that with the strong winds, there was potential for flare-ups within control lines.
Anyone travelling in the area have been advised to exercise caution, particularly considering smoke and dust had lead to poor visibility.
