Housey Housey had its opening night on Tuesday with more than 100 people in attendance.
Director Tim Matthews, who also directs The Forge Pizzeria, said the Armstrong Street venue could cater for anything from weddings, art exhibitions, theatre and other special events.
He said Housey Housey kept in line with The Forge’s open brick plan and featured a rustic look big enough to hold up to 300 people.
“The name is a bit of fun. It’s your party and our house and the space can be so much,” Mr Matthews said.
The City of Ballarat approved the venue’s planning permit earlier this year, a decision that sparked concerns over limited parking around the CBD location. But Mr Matthews said there was ample parking around the venue, and people could always choose alternative means of transport.
“We need more people walking around the CBD. It brings vibrancy to our city.”
