Baade Harbour Australia, which has offices in Melbourne and Geelong, will develop the ambitious design proposed by the college, with the main works set to start mid-2016.
The college proposes to significantly change the layout of buildings at its Wendouree campus. The upgrades will see first-class facilities for years 7 to 12 students across its east and Wendouree campuses.
At Wendouree, plans include upgrades to the auditorium, science wing and year 11 and 12 facilities. It is proposed the college’s main entrance will be on Forest Street instead of the current Giot Drive.
College principal Rick Gervasoni said the focus of the redevelopment was to open the school up to the community.
“We want to make sure our school is available for our students and parents and community,” Mr Gervasoni said.
The college is undergoing a significant transition which will see the closure of its Barkly Street campus. From 2016, students will study year 7 to 12 at the East or Wendouree campuses.
Wendouree MP Sharon Knight said Ballarat Secondary College had a strong future.
“This school is going to be here for a long time so we want to make sure this is the best school in the area,” Ms Knight said.
“It’s a great community and the staff are wonderful and now it’s about matching the buildings to that.”
Baade Harbour Australia has worked on many major projects, including Charlton Hospital, Melbourne Girls College and Geelong West Fire Station.
