Wade, who made his international limited-overs debut in February 2012, returned to Australia's one-day setup for last year's series in England which followed the Ashes, a series won by Australia 3-2. His comeback was a positive one, with the native Tasmanian making a pair of half-centuries, and averaging 82 with the bat.

He had loomed as the likely gloveman for last year's World Cup before relinquishing his position to veteran Brad Haddin, who departed the format on a high as Australia waltzed to victory on home soil, defeating New Zealand in the final.

Speaking ahead of the five-match ODI series against India, which begins in Perth on Tuesday, Wade said that while any series against the cricket superpower was "massive" in its own right, the 2019 event in England was his long-term ambition.

"I was one of the younger players when we were looking at the last World Cup and we didn't get there so that's a goal of mine," Wade said at Melbourne airport on Friday, prior to his flight across the Nullarbor.

But Wade remained circumspect, wary of honing in on a tournament which is still 3½ years away.

"I'll be 31 or 32 when that World Cup comes around," he said. "That's a personal goal of mine, but there's a lot of games in between. If I focus too far ahead I suppose I'll miss out. It's just performing day in, day out."

Wade returned in December from a month-long lay-off following a broken collarbone sustained in the nets prior to a Sheffield Shield match.

Having played all five of the Melbourne Renegades' games in the Big Bash League, Wade said the injury was no longer an issue. "It's feeling good. [It] pulls up a little bit sore at times but you push through it so it feels good."

Wade added that the increasingly well-attended BBL was a strong breeding ground for young players entering the Australian team, with uncapped quicks Joel Paris and Scott Boland - both of whom are named in the squad for the first three one-dayers against India - likely to have benefited from their BBL experience. "BBL helps that a lot.To play in front of big crowds, I mean 80,000 at the MCG, that's international cricket type of stuff. They don't have to do anything different to what they normally do."

Meanwhile, Wade suggested that while the Renegades would be disappointed with Cricket Australia's decision to shield James Pattinson from BBL duties this weekend, he understood why it had to happen. "The reality is that James is paid at the moment to play good Test cricket and good one-day cricket and T20 for Australia. So whatever they think is going to be best for him. He'll work closely with them I'm guessing. I don't know if that's set in stone."
