On the back of its earlier recruiting success, the Burras have confirmed Northern Bullants player Adem Asani is on board for coach Jason Olver’s first year at the helm.
Asani lands in the Central Highlands Football League after five appearances for the Bullants last season and makes the move from Taylors Lakes in the Essendon District competition.
Olver believed Asani and fellow signing Jacob Graham – who also has VFL experience – were the leading additions to the side this year.
“Him and Jacob would be very, very close to each other,” Olver, who described Asani as a strong-bodied onballer who could go forward, said.
Asani has ties to many of the new brigade which joined the Burras on the back of an interest from ex-St Albans player Matt Marshall to follow in his father’s footsteps and play with the club.
Olver said he was pleased with the Burras’ recruiting drive given the impact the new points system introduced by AFL Victoria has had on clubs.
"It has been more restricted because of the points system, no doubt about that,” Olver said.
“(But) I couldn't be happier with what we have picked up with the points system that’s now in place."
Olver also confirmed Leki Asa Leausa – the brother of premiership player Segifili – has joined the Burras from Wonthaggi Power in the Alberton league.
He is expected to fill either a key forward or defensive role.
Hepburn last won the senior premiership in 2013 and is looking to improve on its semi final exit last season when under the care of coach Clive Raak.
Meanwhile, Gordon is believed to be in talks with former St Kilda and Waubra forward Jarryd Allen.
Allen’s brother Jason confirmed the Eagles had been in discussions with the tall goal-kicker, who last played with the Roos in 2014.
Jarryd played just one season with Waubra, where he booted 46 goals.
It is understood he has a connection to Gordon through new coach Gary Learmonth.
