A woman was lucky to escape injury after her car hurtled through an intersection and ended perched in the middle of an empty building site.

The car had gone through the junction of Middleborough Road and Burwood Highway just after 1pm on Monday.

The woman, believed to be in her 40s, was uninjured and able to get out of her car safely.
Construction workers were not on site because they were enjoying a rostered day off prior to Australia Day.
A crane will be needed to remove the car from the building site.
Staff from Victoria Police and WorkSafe are currently inspecting the scene.
