The award comes after it took the major attractions and People’s Choice awards at the RACV Victorian Tourism Awards last year.
This is the third time Sovereign Hill has won the prize, taking it in 1993 and 2005 as well.
CEO Jeremy Johnson said it was a tough accolade to win.
“We’re delighted. It’s the third time we’ve the (award for) Australia’s major tourist attraction,” he said.
“They are very difficult awards to win. We feel very honoured.”
Mr Johnson said their push into China and events popular with domestic visitors like Christmas in July had got them the win.
“The Christmas in July, winter wonderlights event, was extraordinarily successful. It underpinned our domestic market, and then we had the brilliant campaign in China with the fashion show that helped us there as well,” he said.
Sovereign Hill was representing Victoria in the major tourist attraction category.
Mr Johnson said they had tough competition, like Port Arthur in Tasmania and Taronga Zoo in Sydney.
