Only in its second year, the event is set to raise more than $30,000 for the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute.
Director Matt Vallance hopes the second installment, which took place on Friday at Ballarat Golf Club, could raise as much as $20,000 for the institute.
“It’s been good, we’ve had another sell-out this year, another 28 teams (for) 112 guys competing,” Mr Vallance said.
“First year we raised a bit over $15,000 I think, and this year we’re hoping to raise between $15,000 and $20,000.”
FECRI research director Doctor George Kannourakis said the proceeds will be used to digital fluorescence microscopy setup in what would be a “very big addition” to the lab.
“In particular, we’re keen to get a new piece of equipment that will make immunology research and cancer research easier for us in the institute,” Dr Kannourakis said.
“(It will help with) looking at how cancer cells are able to interact with immune cells and how we can attack the cancer cells with immune cells.”
