The 16-year-old from the Eureka Gymnastics Club placed first on the beam as well as top 10 finishes on the vault, bars and the floor to gain selection in the state team.
It will be the Damascus College student’s second appearance at the national competition after taking bronze on the beam at the 2015 Australian championships.
Eureka Gymnastics Club head coach Caleb Tivendale said Sherritt had to overcome a number of injuries in order to just compete in the state trials. “(Because of the injuries) she didn’t really have great training for about four months so she’s done well to make it.”
The competition will be the level nine gymnast’s final chance to compete in a national junior championship before moving into the women’s competition.
