Football League on Saturday.
The Cobras went into the encounter hoping to beat East Point at the venue for the first time in more than a decade and remain unbeaten for the season, but were no match for the Kangaroos.
East Point jumped Bacchus Marsh with a nine-goal open quarter and was never seriously challenged in a 38-point victory – their first of the season.
While the Cobras stuck to their task, they were unable to narrow the lead to less than three goals after quarter time.
It was a jubilant East Point coach Glenn Wilkins who described the break-through performance as “fantastic”.
“I couldn’t be prouder.
“We’ve got back to where we need to be.”
He said the performance had reflected the players’ pride in themselves and the club.
Wilkins said after not reaching any key performance indicator targets in losses to North Ballarat City and Ballarat, the Kangaroos had exceeded every one against the Marsh.
Bacchus Marsh coach Travis Hodgson was philosophical about the defeat, acknowledging the Cobras were simply out-played.
He said he was still happy with the way the season had started, with them on target to achieve the 10 wins he believed were needed to ensure playing finals.
Redan also had its first win – easily accounting for Melton South by 78 points at the City Oval.
This leaves the Panthers without a win in four games.
Lake Wendouree brought Ballarat’s unbeaten start to the season with a huge 90-point victory at Wendouree.
Melton gave Sebastopol no chance at Marty Busch Reserve.
The Bloods made it two wins with an emphatic 69-point margin.
Reigning premier Darley was again left to lick its wounds – losing a second straight game, this time at the hands of Sunbury by 21 points at Darley.
