Australians lost nearly $2 million to identity theft last year, according to the ACCC. So far $240,000 has been lost this year.
Ballarat residents contacted the ACCC 27 times in 2014-15 and 12 times in the first half of this year.
Consumer Affairs Victoria recommends getting electronic bills or statements to provide added security.
Minister for Consumer affairs Jane Garrett said the truck would be in Ballarat on Friday at Central Square from 12-2pm.
“Old bank statements, bills and health records are among the documents that contain personal details which scammers can use to steal your money and identity,” Ms Garrett said.
“Ballarat’s first Shred Fest will give people the chance to get rid of sensitive documents ahead of tax time for free.”
