Th 22-year-old had been the highest goal scorer in the league so far this season with 11 goals from nine games, coming off the back of a strong 2015 where she was awarded the golden boot for highest scorer in the league.
Strikers coach Laura Brady said while the side would be sad to see the talented forward go, her promotion was a positive reflection on the pathway the club could offer.
“Yes she scores, but it’s the leadership she provides that we will miss,” Brady said. “But it’s good for the region and the club that someone’s been recognised.”
Originally from Kuwait, Al-Huneidi first came to the Strikers in 2012 having barely played outdoor soccer.
“She’s (received the call-up to WNPL) because she has worked so hard,” Brady said.
Al-Huneidi will continue to play an active role with the Strikers as the head coach of the club’s under-13 side.
