New South Wales company Stars on Ice arrived in Ballarat on Monday to start the four-day process of building a pop-up ice skating rink for the Winterlude festival, which starts on Saturday.
Manager Gabby Aston said the company was currently laying down boards, polystyrene and tarp before preparing pipes with solution.

Later this week, the area will be filled up like a pool, with the solution in the pipes freezing the ice, creating perfect skating conditions.
“For the whole process until we are ready to skate on, it takes probably four days. It will take two days to build and then another two days to make ice,” Ms Aston said.
Ms Aston and Stars on Ice travel around Australia building pop-up rinks.
Council staff have been on-site, with trucks coming in and out, lowering equipment and infrastructure.
The pop-up ice skating rink will be open for skating this Saturday.
