The Selkirk Roosters delivered in all the facets of play coach Marc Greig has been instilling with a seven-point win over Frankston.
Greig has been encouraged by the progress his young squad has made over the past month, but until the outing at Frankston this had not converted into premiership points.
It finally came together to give the Roosters their first win since round one.
Greig pointed to the opening quarter being a key to the success, saying that this time North Ballarat had capitalised on having the better of that phase with five goals and a 20-point lead.
Although Frankston did close the margin, the effort took a toll and the Roosters were able to again kick away and control the run to the final siren.
Greig said there had been a lot to like about the performance, with 60 more possessions than the Dolphins.
He said the Roosters had generally been cleaner with the ball and certainly increased the pressure with 213 defensive acts, which had forced Frankston to give up telling turnovers.
Greig said overall the day had reinforced to that they were on right track.
Coleman Schache led the way through the midfield, while first-year player Bailey Edwards made his mark with his leg speed.
Ollie Tate is in doubt for Sunday’s clash with second-placed Williamstown after being concussed in the second quarter.
Andrew Hooper finished with knee soreness and will have a lateral collateral ligament examined this week.
