Dunnstown youngster Jarrod McArdle and Buninyong star Sam Turner will both be sidelined this weekend as they continue to recover from respective knocks to the head.
And there is no certainty surrounding the return dates of either player.
This news follows the recent retirement of Ballarat Swans premiership player Corey Grills because of repeated concussions.
Towners coach Justin Abrams revealed that McArdle had been given specialist advice to give the game away after a second incident this season. McArdle also missed a match earlier in the year because of concussion.
“He is going to sit two or three weeks out and see how he recovers from that and I guess he’ll make a bit of a decision with his parents and specialist to see what he does from there,” Abrams said.
Abrams said he had plenty of empathy for McArdle, who he had no doubt was thinking long-term about getting on with life pain-free.
“Jarrod is just forging a path and at 20 years of age it looks like concussion might impact that,” he said.
Turner sat out much of the interleague clash against Geelong and District in May after a knock during the match and also missed Buninyong’s game the weekend after.
Another incident on June 18 against Smythesdale has sidelined the onballer/forward – who has an extensive history of concussion – for an indefinite period of time.
