The development is part of a $46.4 million expansion project which started in 2014.
BHS director of property and infrastructure Gerard Kennedy said the link was a “significant milestone” in the project.
“This allows us to progress by removing the temporary link that had been put in place at the start of the project,” Mr Kennedy said.
The new link is easier to follow and relieves the pressure on hospital staff directing patients and visitors.
“The past route was a bit of an inconvenience, now there is a red line that you can simply follow. The transition has been pretty seamless.”
Works are expected to finish in December this year.
