Dr Mohamed Mofreh, imam of the Griffith mosque, said the perpetrators of violence and terror were not true Muslims.
“I feel so sorry because this is not fair at all,” Dr Mofreh said.
Kruger courted controversy on morning television by calling on Australia to ban Muslim immigrants, prompting a stand-off with fellow presenter David Campbell.
The co-host of Channel Nine’s Today Extra program left Campbell and Today host Lisa Wilkinson visibly discomforted after she said she would like to see the immigration of Muslims to Australia “stopped now … because I would like to feel safe”.
She refused to back down in the face of a social media backlash on Monday afternoon and tweeted the following:
“She’s not nice,” Dr Mofreh said.
“What is happening all over the world is something political, it has no relation to Islam at all.”
Dr Mofreh said no religion condoned killing innocent people.
“I want to make it very clear we condemn any terrorist attacks,” he said.
Dr Mofreh said he wanted a return to peace throughout the world.
“This must be stopped,” he said. Dr Mofreh said he believed terrorists should be punished for their actions.
“Justice needs to be served," he said. “Anytime it happens, anytime there is a problem in the world we were are as a community condemn the act itself.”
Dr Mofreh said it was unfair for people to judge other people’s religious beliefs.
“You can pray in your way and I can pray in my way,” he said.
“Some people are happy to eat chicken, other people are happy to eat meat.”
Dr Mofreh said Griffith residents had been nothing but welcoming to the Muslim community.
“Never have I been treated badly in Griffith,” he said.
“I don’t want anyone to have any negativity to any religion.”
