Ballarat’s month-long Winterlude festival has finally wrapped up, with the city celebrating amid forecasts the target of 100,000 visitors was reached.
City of Ballarat mayor Des Hudson said the council would soon sit down to evaluate this year’s event and start planning for 2017.
“I think the whole four weeks of Winterlude have been fantastic, building on the events that started a couple of weeks ago and really giving an opportunity to celebrate the winter really well, not only for locals but visitors who have been coming to Ballarat,” he said.
Cr Hudson said the pop-up ice skating rink and Sovereign Hill’s Winter Wonderlights projections and snow-filled streets were key attractions.
“I think those key couple of anchor activities mean...we’re really in a great space to build a vibrant festival next year, in the middle of the year for our coldest couple of months.”
