Over 11,000 performers will take to the stage from August to October including 274 pianists in the pianoforte competition.
Four days of pianoforte starting Wednesday will culminate in a performance by eight of Australia’s top young pianists at Celebrating Chopin in The Gallery.
The line up will welcome two new sections this year with a focus on stage craft and industry skills.
“South Street treasures what we’ve done for a long time,” Royal South Street Society business manager Brett Macdonald said.
“Our sections such as the Herald Sun Aria, speech and drama, they’ve been around for a long time but what we’re also trying to do is evolve and introduce new sections that are more relevant to today.”
Celebrating Chopin is on Saturday, August 6 from 11am in The Gallery.
New section Mi Sound will be held in early September at Element Nightclub.
