Jennifer Jones, who pleaded guilty to a string of charges including driving an unregistered car, drink driving and failing a fluid test, appeared in the Ballarat Magistrates court on Monday.
The court heard the disqualified driver was intercepted on Ripon Street on January 2 of this year after police saw her driving without any number plates attached to her car.
She blew 0.152 when asked to undergo a breath test.
Jones told police she had just purchased the car from a wreckers and was driving it because she “couldn’t be bothered walking”.
She also told police she had four glasses of wine before getting behind the wheel.
The following day she was intercepted again driving with no number plates.
Jones underwent an oral fluid test which returned a positive result for methylamphetamine.
She told police she was driving to get petrol and cigarettes.
The woman’s lawyer, Erin Churchill, said Jones originally purchased the car with plans to do it up by the time she was eligible to get her licence back.
But after the second run-in with police she sold the car.
Ms Churchill said Jones understood her liberty was at risk, but she was now determined not to return to court again.
She added Jones was homeless at the time, but had since found housing and made positive steps forward in her life.
Magistrate Urfa Masood sentenced Jones to a 12-month community corrections order with conditions to complete 70 hours of community work, undergo assessment for drug and alcohol treatment, and to complete programs aimed at reducing re-offending.
Jones was also fined $300 with conviction for failing the oral fluid test and driving an unregistered car, and disqualified from driving for 30 months.
