The band took out the D grade section at the event held at Her Majesty’s Theatre on Saturday.
The win tops off an overwhelmingly successful year for the band – which won second place at May’s Bendigo Eisteddfod. Individual participants have also enjoyed a successful year – with May Thomas taking out the Australian French Horn Champion at the National titles last Easter and Montana King awarded Victorian Junior Euphonium Champion at the State Solo Championships in July.
Musical Director of Creswick Brass Band Katrina Bird said the band had continued to reap rewards for its hard work and dedication.
“It’s great to see the band’s effort and work pay off – all members have been working hard on their playing, and the band has been improving each time we play – it’s a well-deserved win and there is more improvement to come from this group,” Ms Bird said.
Ms Bird has played the euphonium for 20 years and has been the musical director for the past four years.
“We were ecstatic to win, it was great for the band.”
Band President Jason White said the win was a credit to the band.
“The win is a great credit to Katrina and the band,” Mr White said.
“For Katrina especially it is a testament to the work she puts into the role of not only conducting the band, but in coaching the players to be their best, as well as teaching our junior members. We are really happy with the win.”
The win on Saturday night came against six other bands, with Creswick a clear winner by five points over Ararat City Band, with Croydon Citizen’s Band third another six points in arrears.
Ms Bird said the feedback from the adjudicator would help them in the future.
“He gave us some things to improve on and also commented on the positive aspects,” Ms Bird said.
The winning repertoire included the Postman's Parade, Evening Song, Oregon and The Golden Lady.
