Ballarat Rush rising star Lydia Brooks will get a chance to ply her trade at the national level over the next two months after being asked to take part in the Bendigo Spirit’s pre-season.

The 20-year-old forward has had a breakout season for the Rush in the South East Australian Basketball League, featuring in all 22 fixtures for the home-and-away season.
She has also had the opportunity to work with Spirit coach Simon Pritchard twice throughout the year, with the WNBL coach observing her rapid improvement over the season
“She’s someone who does the basic things well in that she’s a good defender and she can rebound,” Pritchard said. “The other thing that’s impressed us over the year is her ability to follow instructions and perform a role.”
Brooks will be hoping to feature in the Spirit’s two pre-season fixtures against the Melbourne Boomers in Ballarat and the Dandenong Rangers in Werribee.
Pritchard said strong performances in the practice games and the pre-season could see the youngster elevated into the Spirit’s senior playing squad.
