More than just thinking about them, in fact.
During the past winter, 52-year-old Kieran delivered 20 coats and food items to those he considers less fortunate than himself.
Cerebral palsy is a disorder of muscle capability that manifests itself in different ways, and is caused by a series of varying factors affecting the developing brain of a child.
It is incurable, and can limit communication as well as causing spasms and rigidity.
That hasn’t stopped Kieran.
He began by asking his friends and family if they could donate items.
These items were placed in a box at his home. When the box was full, he organised for them to be delivered to Ballarat’s Soup Bus to be handed out to those who needed them.
Nola Bradley has been Kieran’s carer for 15 years. She says Kieran has lived in a Tipping Foundation house for 16 years, comes from a large and loving family and understands what it is like to have support and care around him.
He feels as though he should share his luck with the community, and has decided to support the Soup Bus.
Nola says she got a coat from an op shop one time. Seeing it was almost brand new, Nola and Kieran decided it should go to someone who needed it.
After that, people began to give them coats to hand out to the homeless and needy.
And how is he received at the Soup Bus?
“Oh it’s crazy,” says Nola.
“The ladies there just absolutely love him. I had a talk to them on Saturday and they said they cry when he’s gone. They get so much out of somebody like Kieran caring about those people, and he does care about them, so much.”
Now that spring has arrived, Kieran has decided it is time to deliver summer clothing, cans of food and toiletries to the soup bus, so he has asked his family and friends once again to donate items.
