Now in its ninth year, the Otway Oktoberfest has expanded the number of regional brewers featuring at the festival celebrating all things beer, bratwurst – and apparently blokes in lederhosen.
Ballarat beermaker Red Duck Brewery has entered into the Germanic spirit and made a special lager to toast the event.
Called Herr Dachshund's Munich lager, brewer Scott Wilson-Browne says it’s a combination of three hops and three malts.
“It’s based on a German style,” says Mr Wilson-Browne.
“I needed a summer beer, and thought, ‘why not make one that suits the Oktoberfest?’
Red Duck Brewery is also opening Kilderkin distillery at Christmas time, making gin and premium malt whiskey.
Otway Oktoberfest is held on October 15 at Otway Estate, 10 minutes south of Colac.
