The 35-year-old debuted for Jamaica in 2000 and was named captain at the age of 23 and held that title over many formats for 10 years.
The dangerous all-rounder played 99 first-class matches and boasts some impressive numbers.
He averaged 28 runs with the bat, including three centuries. While the right-arm off-spinner took 76 wickets at an average of 25.7 with career best figures of 8-42.
After losing former import Saman Jayantha, Golden Point sought out to find a similar replacement and according to coach Adrian Harris they have done exactly that.
“We needed a replacement for Saman,” Harris said.
“We hope he brings the same kind of game to the table for us. He’s a like for like.”
It won’t just be Lambert’s ability to score runs and hold down an end with the ball that will be of value to the club.
Harris expected the experienced campaigner to guide some of the club’s young talent and help develop and educate its players.
“We’re excited to have him, he’ll bring a lot more to the club than just his cricketing ability.
“He’ll be used at the club in a number of development roles.
“They’re not just an investment into your playing side of things. These guys are a great investment in terms of the experience they bring to your cricket club.”
The club said Lambert would fly out as soon as possible but was having difficulties making the trip due to the poor weather in the West Indies.
However, it was hopeful he would arrive early next week and be a strong chance to line-up in the first hit-out of the season – providing play gets underway.
We’re excited to have him, he’ll bring a lot more to the club than just his cricketing ability.
