A Sandringham man received a punch in the face for taking the trouble to tell off a driver for using his mobile phone while driving.

Victoria Police spokesman Adam West said the 40-year-old man was driving his ute along Glenhuntly Road, Elwood about 6pm on Sunday when he noticed another driver in a red Holden Commodore using his phone.
The man decided to point out to the driver the error of his ways, but when the two drivers stopped at the intersection of Glenhuntly Road and Marine Parade, the driver of the Commodore left his vehicle and punched the Sandringham man in the face before returning to his car and driving off.
Senior Constable West said the 40-year-old man suffered minor injuries and reported the matter to police.
"Investigators wish to speak anyone who witnessed or recorded the incident," Senior Constable West said.
