Police are calling for witnesses after a fence fire destroyed a garden shed of a private property backing onto Ballarat Secondary College.

Ballarat Police Senior Sergeant Stacey Glenister said it appeared the fire started on the grounds of the Wendouree school campus, close to the neighbouring fence and away from all school buildings.

The fire spread to the property on Langstaff Drive when the garden shed caught alight.

Wendouree Fire Brigade, Ballarat City Fire Brigade and police attended the scene at about 7.30pm on Wednesday.
